This is a book that is been 20 years in the making. I put up my first website at the end of 1994, and I was first introduced to audio in a webpage in 1995 at the press conference in San Jose that announced RealAudio. During the 10 years from 1995 until 2005 I wrote 21 books about Internet technology of one flavor or another for major publishers. In doing so, I had the support of my colleagues and fellow members of the North Bay Multimedia Association (NBMA), the leading web development association in the San Francisco Bay Area for all those years. With the advent of the Dot Com bust in 2001, the Bay Area lost almost a half-million jobs, and members of the NBMA dispersed both geographically and in their digital specialties. As a result, the NBMA became defunct to the chagrin of those of us who continue to do webwork. But we were a tight-knit group, and 14 years later we’re still having annual parties of NBMA members to celebrate that unique experience of being in the middle of the Internet revolution together for a decade. So I salute my fellow NBMA members from whom I’ve learned a lot. And I’m looking forward to the next party.
Today I’m a member of the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association, one of the leading independent publishing associations in the US. I’m very happy to be a member of this group from which I can learn the complexities of digital publishing and publish digital books.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the support of my family Lani, Brook, and Tommy in my publishing efforts.
